Kevin Slowey will miss the remainder of the 2009 season due to right wrist surgery. Slowey started 16 games for the Twins this season and he is 10-3 with a 4.86 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. This is a shame for Slowey who was having a good season. Andy Swarzak will replace Slowey in the rotation and he has done a good job so far this season. He has started 8 games for the Twins this season and he is 3-3 with a 3.74 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP.

The Twins have signed 39-year old righty swinging 2B Mark Grudzielanek to a minor league deal. He will likely be brought up quickly by the Twins after he gets himself into shape in the minors. Grudzielanek played in 86 games for the Royals last year and he was 99 for 331 (.299 avg, .743 OPS) with 36 runs scored, 3 homers and 24 RBIs. He has now played in 1,772 games in his major league career and he is 2,010 for 6,942 (.290 avg, .727 OPS) with 936 runs scored, 90 homers, 629 RBIs and 131 stolen bases. The Twins need him to get ready quick so that they won’t have to see Alexi Casilla play anymore.
