28-year old lefty swinging OF/DH Jason Kubel has been solid for the Twins again in 2010. Kubel has played in 121 games for the Twins this year and he is 112 of 432 (.259 avg, .783 OPS) with 57 runs scored, 18 homers and 81 RBIs. He is tied for the team lead in homers (18) with Jim Thome and Justin Morneau and he’s second on the team in RBIs. Kubel has really been a unsung hero on the Twins the last couple of years as he has produced despite not getting a lot of ink like Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau get.

Jim Thome has been a lifesaver for the Minnesota Twins

When 39-year old lefty swinging DH Jim Thome signed with the Twins I thought he was nuts because it appeared that he wouldn’t get much P.T. But due to the injury to Justin Morneau, Thome has pretty much been a regular as of late. He has played in 80 games for the Twins this year and he is 54 of 204 (.265 avg, .966 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 16 homers and 41 RBIs. Thome is still moving up the all-time charts in major league history as he now has 580 homers (#10) and 1,606 RBIs (#31). He is only three homers behind Mark McGwire and six homers behind Frank Robinson.

25-year old righty swinging 3B Danny Valencia has really been hot lately and he’s getting most of the starts now at the hot corner. He has played in 36 games for the Twins this year and he is 42 of 116 (.362 avg, .874 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 1 homer, 13 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Third base has been a black hole for the Twins until they called up Valencia. They need him to keep up the good work because the alternatives are not too good.

The fans have voted catcher Joe Mauer and 1B Justin Morneau onto the All-Star teams as starters. This will be the 4th time Joe Mauer has made the All-Star team. He has played in 71 games this season for the Twins and he is 81 of 267 (.303 avg, .813 OPS) with 43 runs scored, 3 homers and 34 RBIs. Despite his sudden loss of power this season Mauer still has a great eye at the plate with 33 walks and only 27 whiffs on the year. Justin Morneau will also be making his fourth appearance in the All-Star team. He has played in 78 games this season for the Twins and he is 97 of 284 (.342 avg, 1.048 OPS) with 50 runs scored, 17 homers and 54 RBIs.

Delmon Young is finally living up to his ability for the Minnesota Twins

24-year old righty swinging Delmon Young was the key player the Twins got in return for shortstop Jason Bartlett and starting pitcher Matt Garza three winters ago. Young didn’t play awful in his first two years with the Twins but the team expected more out of him. That’s exactly they’re getting out of him right now. Young has played in 59 games for the Twins this year and he is 57 of 195 (.292 avg, .826 OPS) with 28 runs scored, 8 homers, 41 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. He has career highs of 80 runs scored, 13 homers and 93 RBIs for a season in his major league career and he’s on a pace to eclipse all of those numbers in 2010 which would make the Twins’ brass very happy with him.
