22-year old lefty swinging outfielder Ben Revere is done for the season after he suffered 2 orbital fractures near his right eye. Revere played in 86 games in AA-ball this season and he was 97 of 327 (.297 avg, .714 OPS) with 39 runs scored, 1 homer, 22 RBIs and 31 stolen bases. He has now played in 340 games in his four years in the Twins’ minor league system and he is 433 of 1,324 (.327 avg, .798 OPS) with 211 runs scored, 4 homers, 142 RBIs and 141 stolen bases. Hopefully Revere will be ready to go for spring training next year.

The Minnesota Twins finally promote Anthony Slama to the show

26-year old righty reliever Anthony Slama has been called up by the Twins for his first taste of the majors. He was the Twins’ #19 ranked prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Slama has pitched in 43 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball this year and he is 0-1 with 17 saves, a 1.71 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. Slama has now pitched in 183 games (0 starts) in his four years in the minors and he is 9-7 with 85 saves, a 1.83 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. Slama will replace Alex Burnett in the bullpen as he was demoted to AAA after last night’s game with the Indians. Burnett pitched in 35 games (0 starts) for the Twins this year and he was 1-2 with a 4.39 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP. Burnett will probably get another chance with the Twins later this season if he pitches well in AAA.

The Gardenhire the Minnesota Twins have in the minors is not so good

27-year old switch hitting Toby Gardenhire isn’t getting any closer to playing for the Twins. He has played in 51 games for the Twins this year in AA+AAA-ball and he is 34 of 156 (.218 avg, .503 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 0 homers and 15 RBIs. Gardenhire has now played in 416 games in his six years in the minors and he is 292 of 1,259 (.232 avg, .558 OPS) with 122 runs scored, 1 homer, 91 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Gardenhire won’t get too Minnesota any time soon as they have a lot of players ahead of him on the organizational depth chart.

Miguel Sano is hitting the ground running for the Minnesota Twins

17-year old righty swinging SS/3B Miguel Sano was the Twins’ #4 rated prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. He’s wasting very little time showing why he is so highly thought of. In his first taste of professional ball, Sano has played in 19 games in Rookie ball in which he is 21 of 61 (.344 avg, 1.018 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 3 homers, 10 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He will likely move up quick for the Twins who don’t have a lot of high impact prospects in front of Sano in the infield.

D’Angelo Jimenez is off to a good start in AAA ball for the Minnesota Twins

The Twins have recently signed 32-year old switch hitting 2B/3B D’Angelo Jimenez to a minor league deal and he’s off to a solid start in AAA. Jimenez has played in 11 games in AAA-ball for the Twins so far and he is 11 of 41 (.268 avg, .806 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 2 homers and 10 RBIs. The Twins signed him out of the Mexican League where he was dominating. Jimenez played in 77 games for the Yucatan and he was 97 of 273 (.355 avg, 1.013 OPS) with 61 runs scored, 9 homers, 60 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Jimenez last played in the majors in 2007 with the Washington Nationals. He has played in 641 games (8 years) in his major league career and he is 568 of 2,159 (.263 avg, .728 OPS) with 290 runs scored, 36 homers, 228 RBIs and 36 stolen bases. This was a good risk for the Twins to take as they might need help in the infield down the road and Jimenez has had some success in his major league career.
